Untitled (Interior with Seated Figure) by Julian Trevelyan

Untitled (Interior with Seated Figure), 1946
Oil on Canvas
Signed & dated lower right

This picture corresponds closely to a picture of the same size and date in the Tate Gallery.

According to Philip Trevelyan, the son of the artist, the scene is Mall Cottage, Durham Wharf, Hammersmith, London, a property close to the artist's home where Philip and Ursula his mother stayed occasionally. The seated figure is Nadia, a Nigerian girl who looked after Philip.

As with many of the Hammersmith pictures the River Thames can be seen through the window at the back of the room.

Provenance: The picture was exchanged for a work of art by another prominent British artist and remained in his collection throughout his life.
