Racing, 1934 Linocut Linocut printed from four blocks in Chinese orange, spectrum red, viridian and Chinese blue on a thin buff Japan paper. Signed, titled and numbered in pencil in the lower left from the edition of 60.
Sports also formed part of Andrews’ oeuvre with subjects including football, rowing, and horse racing. Racing shows the scene as the horses race around the final left turn at Tattenham Corner before heading into the straight for the finish post during the Epsom Derby, the fence on the inside and the composition given added drama and dynamism with the vibrant colours of the horses in orange, red, brown and black.
She used the basis of Racing as the subject of a joint poster design with Cyril Power for London Transport to advertise the various underground tube stations to reach various sporting venues, in this case For the Derby - Morden Station - thence by bus every minute was the message of the poster. 30.5 x 37.5 cm (12 x 14¾ inches)
